Created in 1972, Transport Réal Blanchette started out with only two carriers. At that time, the company specialized in regional auto transportation throughout the province of Quebec. In 1979, Transport Réal Blanchette became Transport Car-fre and its services extended to the transport of new and used vehicles in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes and the United States.

In February 2000, Transport Car-fre expanded its territory by opening an office in Calgary, Alberta, to better service the Western provinces. This expansion continued into 2005 with two new contracts with Honda Canada and Toyota Canada. In 2006 and 2008, the company entered into a partnership with Canadian Pacific and began transporting vehicles by rail.
